Key Binding in Electric

Posted on November 6, 2018April 22, 2025 By vlsifacts No Comments on Key Binding in Electric

Key Binding binds a key; when pressed will execute a command from the menu to which it is bound. You can bind a key to a command as below:

Go to File -> Preferences –> Categories –> General –> Key bindings

Then in Key Binding USER Preferences we can choose any command to assign a key to it.

Go to Tools | NCC | Schematic and Layout views of Cell in Current Window

Click Add. Following window will appear.

Type L to bind it to the “Schematic and Layout views of Cell in Current Window” command, so that whenever we will press L, it will perform the NCC check.

Let’s do some other Key Bindings which will help us for easy access of some common commands.

Tools | ERC | Check Wells => W

Window | Fill Window => F

Window | Zoom out => X

Some time at the time of key binding you may find some conflict as shown in the figure when a key you are binding has been already bound to some other command. For example, here we tried to bind ‘Z’ to NCC. But ‘Z’ is already bound to Toggle Zoom. So, it shows a conflict. In this case you can keep trying another key till the time no conflict exist.
