Interview Experience – WIPRO Limited – Telecom Domain (On Campus)

This is my interview experience for the post of Associate Telecom Engineer at Wipro Limited. Wipro visited our campus (JIIT Noida) for the first time to hire electronic students for their telecom domain. The selection procedure consisted of four parts: the Aptitude Test, Technical Test, Technical Interview and finally followed by the HR Interview.

Round -1: Aptitude Test

We first had the Aptitude test which consisted of normal questions based on Logical Reasoning, Quantitative and Verbal Analysis. The test was general. Some prior practice was required due to the time limit. Preparation from R.S Agarwal, Arun Sharma, and solving some online tests would be enough.

Round -2: Technical Test

This round consisted of basic technical questions covering almost all subjects we had studied since first year. Most of the questions were from Electrical Circuit Analysis, Microprocessors and Controllers, Telecommunication Networks, and basics of C and C++.

Round -3: Technical Interview

The test was followed by the Technical Interview. I entered the room and greeted the interviewer. She looked calm and started by asking me about myself. I answered her, and she took that time to go through my CV.

The first question I was asked was about broadband. I was nervous so, started telling her about broadcasting; after the first line only I realized my fault and corrected myself. She told me to calm down and then proceed with the interview.

She saw “Java” in my CV, and asked me if I know Java well. I replied in assertive. She asked me some basic questions on Java, like what is an Abstract class followed by why we need it. She asked me about inheritance, and told me to write a basic code portraying it. She then asked me about polymorphism and its example. I explained that with the help of a code and told her about the concept of overriding. Then she became more interested and asked me to code an example of overriding. I did that. She then asked me about the constraints while overriding a function and also how it was different from function overloading.

I was the secretary of Robotics Society at my campus, so she asked me about that.

She then asked me about the new emerging technologies in the market related to the profile I had applied for. I talked about LTE, SDNs and Cloud computing there. She seemed to be impressed. She asked me a few questions on telecom which included questions on channels, data rates and about the architecture of different domains in mobile communication. She asked me about the challenges that the telecom company had to face in the present scenario. I talked about the increasing number of users and demand for greater reliability of network and the increasing demand for high data rate.

She then asked me about the projects I had done. I had made a project on data structures in which I had used the concept of linked queue. She asked me about queues and stacks. In another project I had used Arduino micro-controller and a hexadecimal keypad. She asked me about the components and the importance of the project.

She then started asking general questions like what were my strengths and weaknesses and why I should be hired. She asked me about my approach to a project if I was given one, and why that approach is important.

Then she asked me about my training at Mentor Graphics, and acknowledged the fact that I had done summer training in all three years of my undergraduate course.

Round -4: HR Interview

Technical interview was followed by the HR interview. There, I was asked about myself. Then I was asked if I was alright with traveling for work. I replied in positive. I was then asked about my training experience at DRDO and about the project I did there. It was a short interview. She wished me luck and asked me to wait for the results.

At the end I would like to suggest that an aspirant should work on good projects and should have very good knowledge of projects done. Also, a candidate must have very good knowledge of all that he has mentioned in his CV. That plays a major role in leaving a positive or negative impact on the interviewer. It is alright to be nervous during an interview. The interviewer will always try to calm you down. It is important to give your best during that time because you may not get that opportunity again.
